Born in 1968 and living in France. Since 1996, Bobig gives away his artworks using the internet.

Bobig is one of those artists who saw, as soon as the internet appeared, a radically new way to diffuse their work. First by freeing himself from traditional exhibition networks, then by producing works and projects that no other medium could witness, and certainly not with this speed of propagation and this freedom of tone.
Free art, free artist" has been Bobig's motto for a long time. From the very beginning, he proposed to give his works away, just as free software programmers gave away their computer applications.

This free art, at the beginning simple joke (like many of Bobig's works) has thus become a paving stone in the pond of the contemporary art which was already, for a long time, only a simple market made of quotations, values and speculative potential. Because to say that one does not earn money with his works is a thing, but to hold this position during more than 10 years while continuing to voluntarily carry out a food work with the french administration is another one...

Because if it is free, Bobig's art has a great value, plunging its roots in Marcel Duchamp's ready-made, in the conceptual developments of the 80's, in the minimalism of the 60's, and of course, at the origin, in the DADA movement, of which Bobig remains today a great admirer.

This dose of subversion that characterized the DADA movement can be found in all of Bobig's work, transposed to the age of the Internet and instant communication, and it is easy to imagine that operations such as "Pacifist action in videogames" or the "Bobig exhibition kit" would not have been disowned by Tristan Tzara and his acolytes.

This exhibition presents only a small glimpse of Bobig's work, first because most of the artist's paintings and creations have been (aban)donated to the four corners of France, and second because many of the actions were ephemeral and few of those present found it useful to document them.

Nevertheless, Bobig continues to act, day after day, creating new websites and destroying them, and apart from this exhibition, the best way to really dive into the heart of his work is to visit his official website in perpetual movement: www.bobig.fr

Thus, beyond his a priori and the symbolic force exerted by the art dealers, the discovery of this extraordinary creator will perhaps allow the spectator to adhere to the simple and radical discourse that Bobig has never stopped defending, against all odds:

"Art is anything and it is so much better".

Art is anything
